Renault EU Drop Head Coupe (1919)

This Renault is 100 years old and still running well. It is the last of the veteran style with the radiator behind the engine and pretty original with a powerful engine and robust steel chassis.

The Renault Company was established in 1899 and has produced cars ever since. This Model EU is the last of pre- World War I designs and was produced from 1917-1921. It features an enlarged mono-block engine, electric starter, electric lighting and a dual braking using the drive shaft and drums.
This particular car (VIN A2266) was one of many made in France from 1917 onwards and shipped to the USA where they were fitted with a body to Renault design, in this case by Hayes and Miller, a coach builder in New York. It spent the next 70 years in the USA, largely in storage or in a Museum judging from its condition. The Renault was then imported and registered with plate DS 9049 in July 1991. In the late 90’s it was purchased by St Erth Garage in Cornwall and used on occasions to transport the Gala Queen around St Ives. It lay unused in the Garage until acquired by A1 Classic Cars in early 2018 and refurbished to a running condition.
The engine, of 2815cc and 15hp, runs well with no evidence of ever having been restored and the car cruises along the country lanes of East Lothian at 40 mph. It is a credit to Renault that their car can still be used after 100 years. Selling to make way for other renovation projects. Part Exchange for an interesting older car or project possible.
