Ford Pilot V8 Police Car (1951)

A number of Police Forces in the early 1950's used the Ford Pilot as their power and bulldog ruggedness gave them an edge on most saloons of the period. This one is very original and solid but could now do with some minor TLC.

The car is believed to have been purchased by the Liverpool Police and has since had three further owners, the last being a Moderator of the Church of Scotland who used it on occasions until last year. It has been maintained but never renovated and has its original 30hp Flathead V8, 3.6 litre engine which starts and runs well but the carburettor needs rebuilding as it doggedly remains too rich. There is a very old crack in one of the manifolds which has been sealed. The Odometer mileage of 23k may well be correct. Brakes and steering and electrical items are all good and the Police bell is deafening.

The coachwork is largely original with some age cracking in places and should perhaps be preserved as it is. The chrome is pretty good all round. The interior is good and the front bench seat has been treated to new leather, the rest of the leather being fine but now needing some treatment. The carpets are all original and although over 65 years old are not overly worn.

We are selling the car as it is, as a relic of a bygone age with scope for a little tinkering if desired and pricing it accordingly. It comes with some documents, a photocopied workshop manual, a box of spares and tools and an original Handbook.
