RR Silver Dawn (1954)

This late series, automatic Silver Dawn is in superb original condition. It has been well maintained and is comfortably manageable to drive in modern traffic being one of the smallest Rolls ever made. The exterior is classically elegant and the interior is sumptuous. Its rarity with only 761 produced and very few automatics ensures an increasing value.

There is scant documentation with the car but the second owner’s record of its history with notes from the fourth owner yield the following description. The car was purchased from Jack Barclay Ltd in 1954 and spent most of its life garaged in a workshop on a Scottish estate. It was meticulously maintained by the mechanic cum chauffeur resulting in its present superb mechanical condition. An exhaust valve was found to be sticking during the previous ownership and thus the head was removed for a re-grinding and valve seating repair. At that time the current owner spent £8,000 on a complete rebuild, rather than just fixing the valve. The interior carpets and light blue leather are in good condition with some leather showing light use. The front seats were re-trimmed and are in absolutely lovely condition. The walnut is all mirror polished in beautiful order. In 2008 the car was sold to the third owner who then sold it to Vintage and Prestige Co. Ltd. from whom we purchased it and made a number of improvements.
On the road the Rolls Royce Silver Dawn drives perfectly in complete silence with supple taut suspension and none of the wallowing experienced in high mileage examples. It now has electronic ignition, good radial tyres and well-adjusted power-assisted brakes making it suitable for everyday use if desired. It comes with most tools and an original Silver Dawn Handbook.
